Write it. Recall it. Keep it.
Other apps write your flashcards for you. Lexi makes you write them yourself, then makes sure you remember. Slightly rude, quietly effective.
Lexi is a vocabulary notebook that refuses to do your homework.
Every other app hands you a ready made deck. Lexi hands you a blank card and a pen. You find the word, you write what it means in your own English, you add the sentence you actually met it in. That effort is the entire point, because a definition you wrote is a definition you already half remember.
Then Lexi does the boring part. It asks for those words back on the day you were about to lose them.
HOW IT WORKS
- Create a collection. Write your words. Lexi turns them into a daily task list.
- Open the app and you get a short answer to a simple question: what should I do today. Not a wall of features. A list, a progress bar, and a streak that quietly judges you.
WRITE FIRST, THEN RECALL
The core activity is Recall. Lexi shows you the word and nothing else. You type the meaning from memory, with no multiple choice to hide behind. Only then does it reveal the card you wrote, and ask how well you actually remembered.
Four honest answers: Forgot, Hard, Good, Easy. Each button tells you exactly when the word will come back, so nothing about the schedule is a mystery.
FIVE WAYS TO PRACTISE
Recall. Write the definition from memory.
Reverse Recall. See the meaning, name the word. Typos forgiven.
Flashcards. Flip through the deck, swipe away the ones that stuck.
Matching. Four words, four definitions, one satisfying snap.
Fill the Blank. Built from the example sentences you wrote yourself.
Only Recall moves a word's schedule. The rest are practice, there whenever you feel like it.
REPETITION THAT MAKES SENSE
You choose the pace for each collection: every day, every two days, weekly, whatever suits the material. That pace is the starting interval, so "every five days" actually means every five days. Remember a word and the gap widens. Lose it and it comes straight back before the session ends.
There is also a Random review that shuffles everything due across your whole library, because your brain is not organised into neat folders and neither is real life.
REMINDERS THAT DO NOT NAG
Reminders come from your review schedule, not from a fixed daily alarm. A collection set to five days nudges you every five days, never every evening. The notification even names a few of the words that are waiting, so you know what you are walking into.
There is one optional evening nudge for your streak, and it skips any night you have already hit your goal.
SAY IT, NOT JUST READ IT
Write how a word sounds in whatever notation helps you, and record yourself saying it once. Your own voice is on the card, ready to check against on the day you are no longer sure.
NOT ONLY VOCABULARY
A collection is just a page in a notebook. English words, French words, GRE lists, legal terms, medical terms, kanji, engineering jargon, the interview answer you keep fumbling. If you can write it down and want it back later, it belongs in Lexi.
YOURS, AND STAYS YOURS
No account. No login. No server. No analytics. No ads. No AI writing your cards for you.
Lexi has no backend, so everything you write lives on your phone and nothing about your study habits is anyone else's business. One optional feature can look a word up in an external dictionary for a pronunciation and an extra sense or two. It is off until you turn it on, and it sends nothing but the word.
