Features & Capabilities

Every stroke you write is checked - start, end, shape, and length. Learn JLPT N5 kanji free, hear each one in a real word, then write it from memory to earn its star.

Learn to write Japanese kanji the way it is actually written — one stroke at a time, in the right order, with the right endings.

Most apps check whether you drew the right shape. InkDojo checks how you drew it. Trace each stroke from the blue dot and it is judged on start point, end point, shape and length. The model strokes are drawn with real brush endings — the stops (tome), hooks (hane) and sweeps (harai) that make handwriting look Japanese.

WHAT YOU GET • JLPT N5 (103 kanji) — free, forever • JLPT N4 (181 kanji) — Premium • Stroke-by-stroke feedback on every stroke you draw • Four steps: watch the demo, trace with a guide, trace the faint outline, then take the test on a blank square • A real example word for every kanji, spoken aloud — hear 先生 as a word, not as a list of readings • English meanings and on/kun readings for every character, read aloud on request, with optional romaji • Search in romaji or plain English — type "mizu" or "water" to find 水 • Trace a kanji, then prove it: a from-memory test the next day — write it without being shown a stroke to earn its star, and any kanji you stumble on comes back for another try • A daily goal, a streak, and a treasure box of 28 collectibles that fills as you trace • Up to four learner profiles on one device • Reminders scheduled on your device, so you know when a test is waiting

BUILT FOR PRACTICE, NOT MEMORISING Writing a character by hand is what makes it stick. InkDojo is a practice board, not a flashcard deck: you draw every stroke yourself, and the app tells you exactly which stroke needs another try.

PRIVACY Your learning data stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded, synced or tracked.

ABOUT JLPT LEVELS InkDojo is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Japan Foundation, JEES, or any official JLPT administering organization. JLPT is a trademark of its respective owner. No official kanji list is published for the current N1–N5 levels; the groupings here follow the pre-2010 test levels and the mapping commonly used by learners, so treat them as a study guide rather than an official list.

DATA SOURCES Kanji shapes and stroke order from KanjiVG (CC BY-SA 3.0). Meanings, readings and level membership from KANJIDIC2 (EDRDG, CC BY-SA 4.0). Example word translations from JMdict/EDICT (EDRDG, CC BY-SA 4.0). Full credits are in the app under Settings → Credits & Licenses.

PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION Premium unlocks JLPT N4 and is offered as a monthly or an annual plan.
