NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN, SIDE BY SIDE Most apps teach one variety of Vietnamese and never say which. Vietgo defaults to Northern (Hanoi) and shows the Southern (Saigon) form wherever it differs: separate IPA for both accents, north–south word pairs, and one setting that switches the pronunciation guides app-wide. The North holds all six tones apart; the South merges two of them, and the charts show both.
