Features & Capabilities

Sixteen new birds just landed, including the Barn Swallow, Rock Pigeon and Yellow Warbler. Photo ID now better recognizes every bird in the app.

Turn every walk into a bird quest.

Spotter helps children find, identify and collect the birds around them. Hold the phone up while one is singing, or point the camera at a bird and snap a photo. Spotter listens, works out who it is, and adds the bird to their flock.

Over 100 birds, all of them findable across British Columbia, each with its own illustration, its real call, and facts worth repeating at dinner.

Two ways to find a bird • Hear one? Hold the phone up. Spotter listens for the song and names the singer. • See one? Frame it in the camera and tap. Spotter matches the photo.

Built to be honest with children Spotter would rather say "hmm, I couldn't tell" than name the wrong bird. When it isn't certain, it shows its best few guesses side by side with their own photo and lets them decide, which is the real skill anyway: look closely, then choose.

A collection worth filling Every find joins their flock, kept with the date they found it. There are badges to earn, a Bird of the Day, a weekly quest that changes with the season, and a quiz for the birds they already know or just discovered.

Nothing leaves the phone No account. No ads. No analytics. No tracking of any kind. Spotter contains no networking code whatsoever. The bird recognition runs entirely on your device, and photos and recordings never go anywhere. Free, with no purchases inside it.

On your home screen A widget shows the bird of the day for your region, with a Listen button that starts identifying the moment you hear something, so a catch is never more than one tap away.

Made for small hands Big targets, plain words, no menus to get lost in, and no way to get stuck in a dead end.

Bird photographs and recordings are used under Creative Commons licences, with every contributor credited in the app. Bird song recognition is powered by BirdNET.
