lytti is a small, focused player for music you actually own - the albums already on your phone, whether you synced them from a computer, bought them in the iTunes Store or downloaded them from Apple Music. If it's on the phone, it's in here. No streaming catalog. No subscription. No account. No ads.

A GRID THAT FITS YOUR SHELF See 2, 3, 4 or 5 albums per row - pinch to change it on the fly. Browse by artist, genre, album, recently added or most played, and search straight to the record you have in mind. Covers are read from your files' own tags, so side-loaded albums show their artwork instead of a grey square.

A PLAYER, NOT A STOREFRONT Full-screen playback with the cover front and centre, colours drawn from the artwork, a scrubber you can drag, AirPlay, lock screen and Control Center controls, and the queue a swipe below.

IT DOESN'T STOP AT THE END OF THE RECORD When an album finishes, lytti keeps going: the same artist's next record, or something in the same vein, worked out on the phone from your own tags. An evening doesn't need you to pick again every forty minutes - and "more like this" is there when you'd rather choose yourself.

LYRICS THAT KEEP UP Time-synced lyrics scroll with the song, and tapping a line jumps there. The words come from LRCLIB, a free and open database run by the people who use it; lytti looks a track up once and does the rest on the phone, storing the words so they work offline next time.

PLAYLISTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY YOURS Make one, name it, add songs, drag them into order, throw one out - and delete the whole thing when you're done. These live in lytti rather than in your Music library, so there's nothing to sign in to and nothing of yours gets rewritten. The playlists already on your phone sit alongside them and still play; to change one, make a copy and it's yours.

WHERE YOU LEFT OFF Home gathers what you've been playing, what you play most and what arrived last. Arrange the views into your own order and hide the ones you don't use. A Recently Played widget puts your last records on the home screen in three sizes - tap one and it plays.

A PLAY COUNT THAT COUNTS THIS APP Your music library keeps a tally no app can write to, so lytti keeps its own and adds the two together - listen here, and "Most Played" finally moves. Count only your plays here if you'd rather start fresh, or clear the lot.

FIX YOUR METADATA Rename an album, correct an artist, drop in your own cover art. Your edits live in lytti and sit on top of the original - your Music library is never touched.

PRIVATE BY DEFAULT No account, no ads, no tracking, no profile of your listening. Your library, your edits and your artwork stay on the phone. What goes out: the lyrics lookup above, the covers on the "nothing here yet" screen, and - unless you turn the switch in Settings off - anonymous crash reports and counts of which features get used, never a track title or anything you searched for. Playlists, counts and history sync through your own iCloud, which we can't see into. The rest works in airplane mode.

WORTH KNOWING BEFORE YOU BUY IN

• lytti can't import files itself yet, so the music has to reach your library the usual ways: synced, bought in the iTunes Store, or downloaded from Apple Music. FLAC isn't supported yet - if that's what you're here for, say so, it's top of the list. The roadmap: lytti.app/#roadmap.
• No streaming catalog. iPhone only, with no iPad layout yet.
• Playlists that came from the Music app are read-only here. Copy one into lytti and the copy is yours to rearrange.
• Tracks still only in the cloud may appear without playing, and suggestions come from your own tags.
