HONEST ABOUT TWO THINGS Scanning is better online for 33 of the 58 — some use scripts your phone can't read at all, and in others it reads badly enough to matter. Without a signal your phone still has a go, and typing works offline in every language.

And listening depends on your phone rather than on us — an iPhone can hear about half of the 58. Where yours can't, SofiLingo says so before you press record and offers you a language it can hear instead.
