Features & Capabilities

Point your camera at a fort, monument, or square — Lookabout names it, tells its story, and walks you there. Built on foot in Savannah; works wherever you wander.

Stand on Cockspur Island, raise your phone toward a low brick structure across the grass, and the screen quietly says: Battery Hambright · 700 ft — then tells you why it's there.

Lookabout is a travel companion that knows where you are, notices where you're pointing, and answers the oldest question of every trip: what am I looking at?

POINT AT IT. IT KNOWS. Aim your camera at a fort, square, monument, or lighthouse. Using where you stand, the direction you're facing, and a little geometry, Lookabout names it, tells you how far away it is, and offers its story — drawn from sources that actually know their subject: the National Park Service when you're in a park, Wikipedia where the world has written an article, and Apple Maps for everything with a name. On-device intelligence writes a short, friendly introduction — grounded in those real sources, never invented — and every description says where it came from.

SEE THE WORLD LABELED Landmarks around you appear as floating labels in your camera view, each with a live distance. Turn in place and the neighborhood introduces itself.

IT READS TO YOU Tap Listen, lower the phone, and Lookabout becomes an audio tour — the history of the place you're standing in, read aloud while you look at the real thing instead of a screen.

WALK THERE See a label in the distance and want a closer look? One tap starts walking guidance: a trail of dots on the ground, a floating name over the destination, and a gentle voice for the moments that matter. It guides you to the place itself — the pier at the end of the trail, not the sign at the start of it.

IT KNOWS WHERE "HERE" IS Stand anywhere inside one of Savannah's squares — even reading the bronze plaque set into the bricks — and it says: You're here. Aim at the monument in the middle and it tells you about that instead. Places first, details on request — the way people actually talk about where they are.

FREE AND EXPLORER Identifying with the camera and browsing what's nearby are free, along with a taste of the AR labels. The Explorer unlock — one purchase, yours forever — opens every AR label, walking guidance, and voice narration.

QUIET BY DESIGN Everything personal happens on your device. Your location is used to find landmarks near you and shared with no one; there's no account, no ads, no tracking, and nothing that follows you home.

Lookabout was walked into shape — between summer thunderstorms — at Fort Pulaski National Monument, along River Street, and through Savannah's squares. It works anywhere: national parks, historic districts, waterfronts, your own hometown.

Go outside, look about. The world is better labeled than you think.
