Octant is a GPS instrument, not a map. It shows what your iPhone actually knows about where you are — and it is honest about what it cannot know.

WHAT IT SHOWS

• Coordinates in DD, DMS, UTM and MGRS. Copy or share in one tap. • Real accuracy, not signal bars: a radius in metres or feet, with a 60-second history so you can watch the fix settle, and a scatter plot of where the receiver has been putting you. • Three altitudes side by side — above mean sea level, above the WGS-84 ellipsoid, and barometric from air pressure. They disagree by design, and the app explains why. • Compass with automatic magnetic declination. True or magnetic, your choice. • A spirit level built into the readout. • Speed and course over ground, with the accuracy figure beside each. • Sky chart of the whole constellation above you — GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou — with elevation rings, azimuth and estimated PDOP. • AR sky view: hold the phone up and the satellites are drawn over the camera. • Save a point, walk away, and the return radar turns with you until you are standing on it again. • Averaging: hold still and Octant saves the mean of several fixes instead of one noisy one. • GPX and CSV, in and out. • Lock Screen and Home Screen widgets.

WHY THERE ARE NO SIGNAL BARS

iOS gives apps a position, an accuracy figure and a timestamp — nothing more. It exposes no per-satellite signal levels, no list of satellites being tracked, and no raw measurements. Any iPhone app showing signal bars is drawing an estimate, not a measurement. Octant draws none, and says so in the app.

The satellites in the sky chart are computed from published orbital data for your position and the current time. Where they are is public and predictable; which ones your iPhone hears is not. The app labels that clearly rather than pretending otherwise.

Octant Pro is available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, both with a 3-day free trial, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase valid on every device signed in to your Apple Account. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
