LOOKALIKES, NOT JUST NAMES Most apps give you a name and stop. This one names the specific species yours could be confused with — including toxic ones — tells you which physical features separate them, and says plainly which of those features are NOT visible in your photo.

THIS APP DOES NOT TELL YOU WHAT IS SAFE TO EAT It identifies and describes fungi. It will never tell you a mushroom is edible or safe, because a photograph cannot show the features that separate an edible species from a deadly one — spore print colour, a volva hidden below the soil line, staining when cut, smell. Never eat a wild mushroom based on this or any app. Eating wild fungi requires in-person verification by a qualified expert.
