PapaGaio teaches the Portuguese actually spoken in Portugal.

Nearly every Portuguese course on the store teaches the Brazilian variety. If you live in Lisbon, Porto or Madeira, that leaves you saying things no one around you says. PapaGaio is built the other way round: European Portuguese first, with Brazilian differences shown when they matter rather than quietly substituted.

CARDS Spaced repetition with FSRS, the scheduler that adapts to how you actually answer instead of doubling a fixed interval. Four multiple-choice options, or flip the card Anki-style and grade yourself on all four levels. Every card carries audio and a way into the full dictionary article.

TRANSLATE Type a phrase and get it back in European Portuguese, with corrections explained — not just the fixed sentence but the reason it was wrong. Where Portugal and Brazil genuinely differ, both are shown and labelled. Anything you translate can be added to your deck in one tap, and it keeps the sentence it came from.

DICTIONARY Search and filter the whole cached deck, entirely offline. Word forms resolve to their lemma, so looking up "fizeram" lands you on "fazer". Switch the meaning language between Portuguese and English without leaving the screen.

VERBS Full conjugation tables — the tenses a chat bubble cannot hold. Irregulars marked, the ones that matter first.

SENTENCES An endless cloze grinder over the Tatoeba corpus: real sentences with one word removed, graded as you go.

PROGRESS Unit bars with ordered unlock and your review load for the days ahead. No streaks, no guilt mechanics, nothing that punishes a day off.

OFFLINE The deck and its audio cache to the device — roughly a megabyte per hundred cards. Answers given without signal queue up and replay in order when the network returns; FSRS is deterministic, so the schedule comes out the same either way. A trail with no bars is prime study time.

REMINDERS Local notifications scheduled on the device itself. No push servers, nothing to sign up for, and they keep working in airplane mode.

NO ACCOUNT Tap once and your deck exists. No email, no password, no social sign-in. If you also use the PapaGaio Telegram bot, you can pair the two and carry one deck across both — start a card on the phone and finish it in the chat — but that is an option, never a requirement.

PapaGaio is free and carries no advertising. It collects no personal data and contains no tracking or analytics SDKs.
