Hanzi Daily gives you one focused character lesson instead of an overwhelming list. Each lesson connects the character's shape, sound, meaning, and everyday use. If you miss a day, the course does not skip ahead. Your next character waits for you.

LEARN HOW IT IS WRITTEN

See each character on a Tian Zi Ge writing grid. Play, pause, or reset the stroke-order animation and watch every stroke appear in sequence. Then trace the same reference shapes with guidance for order, starting point, direction, and closeness to the path. Practice teaches the movement without grading the beauty of your handwriting.

SEE CHARACTERS IN REAL USE

Each lesson includes two common words and one short modern sentence, with Pinyin and a translation in your selected app language. Move from recognising an isolated shape to understanding how it appears in everyday vocabulary.

REVIEW BEFORE YOU FORGET

Completed lessons build your review queue. Short sessions show up to five due cards and ask you to recall the answer before revealing it. Practise from Hanzi to meaning and reading, then from meaning and Pinyin back to Hanzi. Rate answers Again, Hard, Good, or Easy. The local FSRS schedule adapts with a 90% target retention rate.

BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE COURSES

Choose Beginner or Intermediate during setup. Beginner starts with simpler practical characters and continues into Intermediate after the foundation. Intermediate begins with the additional course, while earlier material remains in the Library. Advanced, Traditional Chinese, Cantonese, and Zhuyin are outside this version.

655 ORIGINAL LEARNING CARDS

Study 655 unique Simplified Chinese characters: 371 Beginner and 284 additional Intermediate cards. The selection follows the current official Chinese proficiency character scope as a curriculum reference, but Hanzi Daily is not an exam-preparation course. Explanations, words, sentences, and translations are original app material, not copied textbook lessons.

LIBRARY, HISTORY, AND ICLOUD

Search by Hanzi, Pinyin, or meaning. Reopen completed lessons, browse history, and save favourites. Changing level does not erase progress. Your history, favourites, streak, and review state can sync privately through iCloud across your Apple devices.

The free Today widget offers a simple daily glance. Hanzi Daily Plus adds Due Review and Favourites modes and choices for Hanzi only, Hanzi with Pinyin, or Hanzi with meaning. Tap a widget to open its character.
