After trying numerous apps, I found myself wanting something simple to help me broaden my vocabulary. In an ideal world, I would have bought physical flashcards but with thousands of words and phrases to learn, it simply wasn’t an option. That’s how French Cards was born!

The app is simple - you create a custom deck of cards using the categories and settings and you move them between the stacks. If you know a word or phrase you can move it to the stack of cards you know. If you don’t know it, move it to the stack of cards you don’t know. If you simply want to go over the deck multiple times, swipe up.

You have 50 categories to choose from consisting of 4,000 words and 1,500 phrases. Simply toggle on the ones you want to focus on and create your own learning deck.

The settings allow you to narrow down your deck even further. You can even focus on cognates only - words which share similar translations meaning you can pick them up very quickly!

There’s a slideshow mode to learn hands free - you can place your phone on the side and practice your vocabulary while doing the dishes, folding laundry or knitting.

No matter your level, you can use the flashcards to learn new words and phrases every day!
