Yap is a voice recorder and transcriber that runs on your iPhone. Record for as long as you need — there is no minute cap on recording or transcription, on any tier — then read it back as text, find it again by meaning, and turn it into a structured AI Note.

There is no Yap account and no Yap server. Recording, transcription, speaker separation, search, and AI Notes are all processed on your device. Once the speech assets for your language are installed, capture and transcription keep working in airplane mode.

WHAT YAP DOES

• Records to a durable audio file that survives a crash or a battery death mid-sentence. • Transcribes on device in every language Apple's on-device speech recognition supports, with per-word timing, so tapping a line plays back the moment it was said. • Separates speakers, so a meeting or an interview reads as a conversation instead of a wall of text. Speakers can be named, merged, or split apart. • Writes an AI Note — title, summary, key points, action items — where every generated line links back to the part of the recording it came from. Tap a key point to hear it. • Searches by meaning rather than only by keyword, and across languages: ask in English, find the note you recorded in Japanese. Every result quotes the passage that matched and plays from the second it was said. • Answers questions about your whole archive, with quoted receipts you can play. • Exports to Markdown, PDF, SRT subtitles, or plain text — one note or the entire archive, mirroring your folders. • Starts from Siri, the Action button, the Lock Screen, or a Home Screen widget.

ABOUT AI NOTES

AI Notes are written by Apple Intelligence on devices that support it. On other devices Yap uses its own on-device summarizer, which quotes your sentences rather than rewriting them, and Yap tells you which one you got. Machine transcription and machine summaries can be wrong — that is why every line keeps a link back to the recording.

YOUR RECORDINGS

Recordings, transcripts, and notes are stored in Yap's own storage on your device. Optional sync uses your private iCloud database, and original audio is excluded from it. Your data may also be included in your Apple device backup, which you control in iOS Settings. A deleted note stays recoverable for 30 days.

RECORDING RESPONSIBLY

Laws about recording other people differ by country and by state, and in many places everyone in the conversation has to agree first. Yap cannot check this for you. That responsibility is yours.
