Monuments Unmaking

Monument Unmaking is designed to address critical gaps in the public art sector by focusing on equity and diversity through the exploration of innovative digital solutions. This research-driven initiative responds to a pressing need: transforming public artworks that do not reflect the diverse communities in which they exist, or the communities whose histories and experiences they claim to represent. Many public artworks celebrate historical figures or events, yet these works often fail to reflect the stories or lived experiences of marginalized communities. Through augmented reality (AR), Monument Unmaking aims to reframe these works, offering new ways of engaging with them in a more inclusive and relevant context.
