Features & Capabilities

Every chord suggestion comes with one plain sentence saying what it does and where it usually leads. Build a progression, hear it back, and understand why it works.

Chordwright suggests the next chord in your progression, plays it back, and tells you in one plain sentence why that chord works and where it usually leads.

Most chord tools hand you a progression. This one explains it, so that after twenty sessions you need it less.

WHAT IT DOES

• Suggests what can come next, sorted by what the move actually does: safe, preparation, tension, resolution, pivot, colour or surprise • Auditions any suggestion in place before you commit, so you hear the change in context rather than in isolation • Explains every chord in one sentence of plain English, with no jargon wall to climb first • Sets a key, a starting chord and a length in one tap, from a mood • Plays the progression back at your tempo, with a count-in, looping, and a playhead that follows the bars as they sound • Works completely offline. No account, no sign-in, and the app makes no network request of its own

WHO IT IS FOR

Songwriters who can hear that a change is wrong but not say why. Guitarists and pianists past the first few shapes. Music students working on composition, and teachers who would rather explain a chord's function once than twenty times.

Written by a secondary school music teacher, which is the whole reason the explanations sound like a person rather than a textbook.

FREE AND PRO

Free: the Classical (major) pack, with its mood presets and starter progressions, an explanation for every chord, full playback with voice leading, and up to three saved progressions.

Pro: adds five more packs, Classical (minor), Jazz essentials and Modal, each in major and minor, with their own mood presets and starter progressions, and removes the save limit. Nothing else is gated.

Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription, or as a one-off lifetime purchase. The annual plan includes a 14-day free trial. Prices are shown in the app in your own currency before anything is charged, and a subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel in your Apple account settings at any time.
