HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS Most apps in this category show you a number and leave it there. This one tells you where the number came from and how far offshore it was measured, because that matters: a satellite reports one value for a patch of sea a few kilometres across, and the shallow water you actually stand in can be two or three degrees warmer on a hot, still afternoon.

WHAT IT CANNOT DO It cannot tell you whether the water is clean, whether there are jellyfish or currents, or whether it is safe to swim today. It does not forecast — every number is a measurement already taken, not a prediction. Always follow the flags and the lifeguards. Oceans and seas only; inland lakes are not covered.
