Sorairo is a weather widget that shows the sky as a picture instead of an icon and a number. Clear, cloudy, rain, snow, thunder, fog — the weather becomes artwork, and its light shifts quietly through dawn, day, dusk and night. The same "sunny" looks nothing alike in the morning and at midnight.

■ The widget comes first • Small, Medium and Large — plus Extra Large on iPad • Choose Pure Art, Minimal, or Forecast • Show the artwork alone, or add the temperature and the hours ahead • Leave it there and it changes with the weather and the time of day

■ Fifteen art styles • Paper Cut Bright — bright, quiet skies cut and layered from paper (free) • Kirie Shadow — backlit silhouettes in cut paper • Origami Sky — folded planes and sharp creases • Watercolor Air — soft washes and breathing space • Sketch Wash — line and light color, like a travel notebook • Granulation — pigment settling into grain • Impasto Sky — thick, swirling brushwork • Stained Glass — luminous glass and leadlines • Pointillism — light built from countless dots • Washi Seasons — fibrous paper and quiet negative space • Ukiyo-e Sky — woodblock color fields and soft gradations • Sumi-e Sky — ink tones and empty space, nothing more • Minimal Shapes — weather drawn in pure geometry • Line Sky — a single contour, light on its feet • Riso Sky — offset layers and fluorescent ink

■ A careful weather app, too • Current temperature, feels-like, humidity, wind and UV index • 24-hour hourly and 10-day forecasts • Sunrise and sunset • A short note for the day (e.g. "Expect a noticeable temperature change between day and night.") • Save cities and switch between them

■ Quiet and respectful • No ads • No account • Location is used only while you use the app, and only to fetch weather — no history is kept • Everything works without location: just choose a city

■ Free to use Paper Cut Bright, one city, and the Small and Medium widgets. Current conditions, hourly and 10-day forecasts are all included at no cost.
