Features & Capabilities

Not another party game. One question at a time — from −2 m small talk to −200 m deep water — then the screen fades and gets out of your way.

Deep questions for couples, friends and family — ordered by how deep they go.

Fathm is a conversation starter that measures depth the way a fathom measures water. You pick who you are with and how far down you want to go. The app serves one question at a time. You answer out loud. You can pass on anything.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Pick who you are with — your partner, a friend, your family, someone new, or yourself. Add someone by name and the questions will use it.
  2. Pick a topic. Topics are ordered shallow to deep, each with a depth reading from −2 m to −200 m.
  3. Talk. One question fills the screen, and after a few seconds the buttons fade away so only the question is left.

WHAT IS INSIDE • 11 topics, from Easy Icebreakers (−2 m) and The Present (−4 m) through Friendship, The Past and Self-knowledge to Relationship (−70 m), Intimacy (−90 m) and Deep Water (−200 m) • Questions that say their name — add the person you are talking with and the deck speaks to the two of you instead of "your partner". The name never leaves your phone. • 6 occasion packs: road trip, meeting the parents, long-distance, before the wedding, new parents, reconnecting • Talk live, together — one deck, every phone. Share a conversation code and everyone sees the same question at the same moment, side by side or continents apart. • Made for you two — say a few words about your situation and the questions adapt to it • Depth map — see which topics you have explored and how deep you have been, per person • History — look back on past conversations and the questions in them • Favourites — save a question and share it as a card • Gentle reminders, off by default and never nagging • 17 languages, following your device

BUILT FOR THE CONVERSATION, NOT FOR THE SCREEN No streaks. No badges. No confetti. Nothing that rewards how often you open the app. The best session is the one where you looked at each other, not at your phone — which is why the chrome fades and the loop is three taps to a question.

SAFE BY DESIGN • Passing is free — no reason asked, nothing recorded • A quiet check-in before the questions get heavier, and a closing reflection at the end • Your answers are never stored. What you type into personalisation shapes the questions and is then discarded. • Fathm is not therapy and does not pretend to be. If a conversation goes somewhere hard, we point to a helpline.

FREE AND PRO Free is genuinely generous: every question down to −30 m, forever, with no daily cap — plus three dives into the deep, on us. Fathm Pro unlocks the descent — the deep topics (Parent & Child −60 m, Relationship −70 m, Intimacy −90 m, Deep Water −200 m), all six occasion packs, personalised questions, history and the depth map. Pro is free for 7 days on the annual plan, and we remind you before the trial ends.

Questions to ask your partner. Questions for friends. Icebreakers for someone new. Or something to ask yourself. Fathm gives you the question you would never think to ask.
