Features & Capabilities

Hear a sentence. Write down exactly what you heard. Inkline grades every single word and shows you precisely where you went wrong — what you missed, what you added, what you misheard. Dictation is the strictest listening practice there is. You cannot guess the gist and move on: every word has to be heard, and written. Inkline is built for that one thing.

PRACTICE SENTENCE BY SENTENCE

• Lessons are already split into sentences, and playback stops at the end of each one • Drag the waveform to replay just the part you are unsure about • Five playback speeds from 0.5x to 1.5x, weighted toward the slow end, because dictation needs careful listening more than fast listening • Sentences are masked with asterisks that still reveal the word count and the length of each word — enough of a hint to keep you going • Keeps playing with the screen off, works with headphones

GRADED WORD BY WORD

• Compares by sequence, not by position: one missing word at the start will not throw off every word after it • Punctuation and capitalization are ignored — you are training your ear, not your commas • Every result is saved, so reopening an old lesson still shows where you went wrong

HANDWRITE IT ON IPAD

• Write with Apple Pencil straight onto ruled paper instead of typing • The writing area keeps its warm paper tone even in dark mode, because ink on paper is what the eye reads most comfortably • On iPhone and when typing, autocorrect and predictive text are switched off — otherwise the keyboard is doing the exercise for you

BRING YOUR OWN AUDIO

A podcast you like, a lecture you saved, a clip with subtitles — import it and practice with it exactly like a built-in lesson:

• Audio with subtitles (SRT/VTT): sentences are matched to the timings in the file • Audio with a transcript: sentences are split automatically • Audio alone: the app listens and finds the sentence boundaries on device (requires iOS 26 or later) • Adjust the start and end of any sentence by dragging on the waveform • Sort lessons into folders by topic, and pack a whole folder into one file to send to a study partner

A FREE LIBRARY TO START WITH

54 lessons, more than 3,500 sentences, graded from A2 to C1: • VOA Learning English — news read slowly and clearly in standard American English: science, health, culture, education, American stories, the origins of idioms • LibriVox — Aesop's fables All of it is public domain material. Download once, then study offline.

PRIVATE, AND OUT OF YOUR WAY

• No account, no sign-in • No personal data collected, no tracking • Your work and your progress stay on your device

WHO IT IS FOR

Learners preparing for an English certificate like iELTS, Toeic, anyone who needs sharper listening for work, and self-studiers who want concrete feedback instead of passive listening.
