5 good minutes. Every night
Tonight's why is ready. A story, a question for them, an answer in their words. New journeys land every week — the Moon, the ocean, feelings, and saying no.
Your kid asks why the Moon follows the car.
It's 9:40 in the evening. You've been up since six. You say "let's look it up tomorrow" — and you both know how that ends.
Whybird is what's already waiting for that moment. One card. Tonight's. Nothing to choose.
WHAT'S ON THE CARD
A question your kid would have asked anyway. A short story to read out loud. An explanation you can say to a five-year-old without tripping over it. And one small thing to do — a glass of water, a torch, a walk to the window.
Five minutes, and the phone goes face down.
NOT A LIBRARY
Every other app hands you a pile of questions and wishes you luck. That's exactly the part that breaks. At 9:40pm you don't need more options, you need someone to have decided already.
So we decide. One card a night, and it's ready before you open the app.
SEVEN NIGHTS, ONE STORY
The cards don't sit in a heap. Seven of them make a journey with a plot: Monday sets up Thursday, Sunday finishes it. Whybird goes somewhere — the Moon, the bottom of the ocean, inside your own body — and the questions come out of what happens to her on the way.
Your kid stops waiting for tomorrow's fact and starts waiting to find out what happens to the bird. That's a different kind of waiting, and any parent can hear the difference.
WHERE THE JOURNEYS GO
Space and the Moon. The ocean and what lives in the dark down there. The body — blood, bones, why you get hiccups. Weather that arrives without asking. Animals. Machines and how they know things. Food, and what happens to it inside you. Feelings, which are harder than any of it.
The journeys are mapped years ahead, and a new one lands every week. You don't update anything and you don't go looking for it — it's just there when you open the app.
ASK THEM FIRST
The card opens with a question for your kid, not an answer for you. No right answer, and nothing here ever tells them they got it wrong. A kid who's scared of being wrong stops saying anything out loud, and out loud is the whole thing.
Then you explain. Then they tell you what they reckon. Then — if you want — you write down what they said.
THEIR WORDS, KEPT
What they said stays. Not points, not a graph. Their sentence, with the date beside it.
A year later you don't have forty facts about space. You have the evening your daughter decided the Moon is shy, in the words she used.
Parents don't come back for the facts.
FOR THE NIGHT YOU'RE WRECKED
The whole card is there, top to bottom — and nothing on it is an order. Read the question, stop there, and the evening still counts. The thing to do with your hands says "if there's time", because some nights there isn't.
A tired parent isn't a worse parent, and nothing in here will imply otherwise.
SAFE AND BRAVE
One journey isn't about space. It's about your kid's body, private parts, secrets that feel heavy, and why it's never their fault.
Seven evenings, built on NSPCC and AAP guidance. No fear, no lecture, no voice that frightens anyone. Just the sentences that are hard to start on your own.
That journey can't be shared out of the app. It isn't content. It's your family.
NOTHING TO SCROLL. NOTHING COLLECTED.
Tonight's card was finished and checked long before you opened the app. Nothing gets written while you're holding the phone, there's no chat, and there's nowhere for your child to type.
No sign-up, no email, no analytics. We don't collect anything about you or your kid — not as a promise, but because there's no server to send it to. Everything lives on your phone and in your own iCloud.
TONIGHT
The first journey is free. All seven evenings, no card needed.
Tonight's why is ready.
