• How much usable life you get per dollar spent
• Condition and risk: title status, scam flags, known problems

That is why a cheap high-mileage car can beat a shiny expensive one, and why an overpriced car with a salvage title lands at the bottom where it belongs.

Know what it is going to cost you Every car gets the faults its model is actually known for, at roughly the mileage it is on now, with a figure to budget. A car needing a $2,500 job soon is not the bargain its sticker suggests, and the score reflects that.
