Start a project and choose the way the paint will actually be handled: commercially purchased paint or a Rosco shop mix. Each workflow stays separate, while every color remains connected to the project that needs it.

COMMERCIAL PAINT MATCHING

Enter a target color as HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, CMYK, or LAB. On iPhone or iPad, take a picture of a paint sample, reference, or document—or choose an image from the photo library. Touch the exact point you want to sample, preview its HEX value, and choose when to use it. On Mac, pick a visible color from anywhere on screen. Compare the result against nearly 14,000 bundled colors from BEHR, Benjamin Moore, PPG Paints, Sherwin-Williams, and Valspar.

Search by paint name, color code, brand, or color family. Choose a match, set the sheen, and add it directly to the active project sheet.

CLEAR PAINT-COUNTER ORDERS

Name colors by their scenic purpose—Wall Base, Portal Trim, Act II Floor, or any label that makes sense to the production. PaintHex keeps that label beside the official paint name, brand, code, sheen, and order total.

PaintHex converts calculated amounts into practical quart and gallon containers automatically. Review the recommendation, then adjust the container count or size when the shop needs a different order. When needed, use the optional estimator for surfaces, coats, coverage, waste, and openings. Export a concise PDF that can be shared or handed to a paint counter.

ROSCO SHOP MIXING

Build Rosco Off Broadway recipes in a dedicated mixing workspace. Review suggested parts, limit recipes to paint currently in stock, and save mixes to a separate project mix sheet. Commercial orders and shop recipes never become one confusing list.

INVENTORY

Track purchased paint and Rosco mixing stock globally, without requiring a project. Record quantity, unit, location, color code, sheen, and notes. The commercial library shows what is already stocked, and low-stock indicators help the shop plan before paint runs out.

PAINT PROCESSES

Turn scenic-paint methods into reusable, ordered guides. Select project or commercial-library colors, record dilution for each color, choose scenic tools and brush sizes, add drying times and reference photos, and build multi-step instructions. Save or share the finished process guide as a PDF.

COLLABORATION

Share a project or the global inventory with collaborators through iCloud. Owners can invite editors or viewers, review participants, and synchronize paint sheets, saved Rosco mixes, process guides, and stock records without creating a separate PaintHex account.

MADE FOR APPLE DEVICES

Use the full planning workspace on Mac, work from iPad in the studio, and check projects from iPhone. Projects, paint sheets, processes, saved Rosco mixes, and inventory sync privately through iCloud across devices signed into the same Apple Account.

PaintHex does not require a separate account and does not include ads or third-party analytics.

Digital color matches and mixing recipes are planning references. Lighting, screens, paint bases, pigments, drying, and sheen affect physical results. Always verify important colors with a physical paint sample before purchasing or mixing production quantities.
