Quiet Forest Numbers

A calm maths app for kids. Gentle practice with no pressure, no games to win - just a quiet forest that turns right answers into beautiful, peaceful music.

Forest Numbers is two things at once: a gentle maths practice app, and an ambient music generator you can simply sit inside.

There is nothing here that rushes a child. No timers. No lives. No streaks. No leaderboards, no confetti, no "wrong answer" buzzer. One sum at a time floats over a paper-cut forest, and a small hooded guide waits patiently beside the numbers for as long as thinking takes. When the answer is right, the forest plays a note.

A CALM STATE IS A LEARNING STATE

The app was shaped in consultation with a paediatric occupational therapist around a simple idea: a nervous system at ease takes things in, and one under pressure defends itself. Every design choice - the slow drifting clouds, the soft music underneath, the absence of scores and shame - serves that.

THE FOREST IS ALSO AN INSTRUMENT

An environmental music generator, inspired by Japanese environmental music: sound made to sit quietly in a space rather than demand attention. Behind the music button is a real ambient engine:

• Soft ambient background music, recorded for the app
• Ten gentle answer notes - right answers weave a slow melody
• Real rain and forest recordings, mixed on their own faders
• A mixer with reverb, tape delay, and a varispeed tape fader that slows the entire soundscape - music, notes and echoes together - like pulling a tape machine's speed
• The screen stays awake, so you can leave it playing as a sound machine for homework, drawing, or winding down

FOUR EDITIONS OF THE SAME FOREST

One for each part of the day:

• Night: Adding (+), under a moon that waxes and wanes as you play
• Day: Taking Away (-)
• Sunrise: Times Tables (x), pick the tables you want
• Sunset: Division, whole numbers only, never a trick

PRIVATE BY DESIGN

No accounts, no ads, no analytics, no internet. Everything lives inside the app; nothing a child does leaves the device.
