PHOTOGRAPH THE BOARD, GET THE SCHEDULE

Take a picture of the consumer unit and Certably reads the device markings and proposes the circuit schedule — description, type, curve, rating, RCD. It fills in construction only, never a reading, and every scanned circuit has to be confirmed against the physical board before the certificate will issue. It runs on the device; the photograph goes nowhere.

THE DIARY YOU ALREADY KEEP

Certably can read today's appointments and offer to start a certificate from one, filling in the site and the client. Put a re-inspection date on a certificate and it can go in your calendar with it. When those dates come round, Certably lists what is due and writes the reminder to your client for you.

IT CHECKS YOUR WORK BEFORE YOUR CLIENT DOES

Type a Zs and Certably tells you immediately whether it passes, against the BS 7671 maximum for that device and the 80% rule-of-thumb figure. On a ring final it shows the R1+R2 you should be seeing before you measure it, so a spurred socket or a broken ring is obvious straight away.

Before you issue anything, Certably runs through the certificate and lists what is missing or wrong — an unrecorded reading, insulation below the 1 MΩ minimum, polarity not confirmed, an RCD outside its operating time. Better you find it than an assessor.

THE CLASSIFICATION CODES DO WHAT THEY SHOULD

Record a C1, C2 or FI and the report is unsatisfactory. There is no override, because there should not be one.

STOP TYPING THE SAME THINGS

Duplicate last year's certificate for a revisit and the circuits, board layout, cable sizes and wording all carry over. Every reading and signature starts blank — a copied test result is not a test result. Save your standard wording once, and build a library of the observations you write most.

PHOTOGRAPH THE DEFECT

Attach a photo to any observation and it prints on the report in a numbered photographs appendix — what you saw, next to what you wrote.
