Place a dot, draw a line through five, and try not to close off the board you still need. Now with a daily challenge and shareable boards.

Lattice Five is Morpion Solitaire — the pen-and-paper puzzle also known as Join Five, played on grid paper since the 1970s.

Place one dot, then draw a straight line through five dots in a row. The line has to run through the dot you just placed, and no stretch of the grid may ever be drawn twice. That single constraint is the whole game: every line you draw closes off possibilities, so a good move is one that scores now and still leaves the board alive.

Your score is the number of lines you manage to draw. Beginners finish in the forties. The human record, set by hand in 1976, is 170.
