SameDay Journal is a daily journal with one idea behind it: what you write today is more interesting when you can see what you wrote on this same day a year ago, and the year before that.

Open the app and today's entry is waiting at the top. Below it, the same calendar day from every previous year you've written — Thursday, August 6, 2025, and the one before that, each with its photo if it had one. Some days that's a quiet reminder of an ordinary week. Some days it isn't.

WRITING • One entry a day, with an optional photo • A gentle daily prompt if you want one, or a blank page if you don't • Swipe between days, or use the calendar to jump to any date • Search everything you've written • An optional daily reminder at a time you choose

THE SAME DAY, ACROSS YEARS • Today's entry sits above the same date from every earlier year • Past entries show their full date and weekday, not just the year • Tap any photo to view it full screen • The calendar marks the days you've written on • Play a slideshow of your photos over any range of dates, and an optional year-end recap on December 31

WEATHER, IF YOU WANT IT Turn it on and each day's entry records the city and the day's weather alongside what you wrote. It's optional, off until you enable it, and the app works exactly the same without it.

YOUR JOURNAL IS YOURS There is no account and no sign-up. Nothing you write is uploaded to a server, because there is no server. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no subscription, nothing to unlock. Your entries and photos live on your device.

That also means backups are worth taking seriously, and the app helps: export your whole journal — entries and photos — to a single file you save wherever you like, import it back on a new phone, and get a nudge every couple of months if it's been a while.

SameDay Journal is a small personal project, shared as-is with people who might like it. It does the things above and deliberately not much else.
