Plumage: 3D Print Painting

Import a 3MF or STL, paint filament colors with Apple Pencil, then export a slicer-ready 3MF for multicolor printing.

Plumage paints filament colors directly onto your 3D models, so they come out of the printer in full color. You import a model, paint each region the color you want, and export a slicer-ready .3mf with the color assignments already baked in. The painting happens on your iPad, before the file ever reaches a slicer.

How it works

1. Import a .3mf or STL model from Files or another app.
2. Paint regions with your Apple Pencil or your finger.
3. Assign each area to a filament color from your palette.
4. Export a standard .3mf. Open it in your slicer, and the colors map to your printer's filament slots.

Build a palette and watch the colors land on the model as you paint, so the preview on screen is what comes off the print bed. Undo and redo let you work without fear of a wrong stroke.

Tools

• Brush paints freehand along the surface, with an adjustable size for broad areas or fine detail.
• Sphere paints through the model, which suits rounded or thicker regions.
• Fill floods a region up to its natural edges with a single tap. Drag to tune the edge angle so the color stops exactly where a crease is, not one facet past it.

Built for Apple Pencil Hover preview, Pencil shortcuts, and palm rejection give you real control over every boundary, the part that is slow and fiddly with a mouse in a desktop slicer.

Ready for multicolor printers The exported .3mf carries per-triangle color data and opens in Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, and the Orca-based slicers from Creality, Elegoo and Anycubic. It maps to multi-material systems such as the Bambu Lab AMS. Paint with up to 16 filaments, the most today's multicolor slicers read back. You paint on the iPad, then hand a clean file to whichever slicer you already use to prepare the print.
