Salish Tides

I'm a sailor and small-craft enjoyer of the sea. I built Salish Tides to streamline navigation while cruising in the gulf islands. Looking up current tables and using paper atlases felt a bit wack and out of date.

Salish Tides turns the tidal current into something you can see.

It's a full-screen chart of the Northeast Pacific Ocean with the current visualized. She how hard it's running, direction, where back-eddies form. Clear and precise current speed and direction for anywhere on the map.

Super useful for planning. You can scrub through time, see the current behaviour at any point in time. Never get stuck in a current again.

Works with no signal Salish Tides is offline-first. The chart, the currents, and the tides all live on your device, so it keeps working in the islands, up the inlets, and well past the last bar of cell coverage. When you do have a connection it quietly folds in the latest real-time forecast; when you don't, it falls back to its built-in tidal model automatically — no switch to flip.

Made for the water • Night theme by default, easy on the eyes at dusk; Day and System themes too. • Knots or m/s, metres or feet, 12- or 24-hour clock. • Your position on the chart, so you can orient to the current around you.

The data Currents are modelled from the SalishSeaCast ocean model (UBC) and, when online, its live forecast. Tide heights come from NOAA Tides & Currents and the Canadian Hydrographic Service.

Salish Tides is a planning aid, not an official source for navigation. Always consult official charts, tide tables, and current atlases, and keep a proper watch.
