Lerne Vögel wirklich kennen
You could walk outside and name 94 species, 36 of them by ear. Nestling gets you there in a few minutes a day, one field mark at a time.
The best identification app is the one you eventually stop needing.
Most apps answer the question: which bird is this? Nestling answers a different one: how do I recognize it myself next time? Instead of ticking off species or uploading photos, you build real identification skill step by step. Every lesson teaches exactly one small skill. Together they add up to something that lasts.
TOURS OF REAL PLACES
A tour in Nestling is a real place: a seabird island off Norway, an alpine plateau, a Berlin city park. You learn exactly the species you can expect there, in the right season. Traveling soon? Practice the region's tours before you go, and when you arrive you can identify the birds with confidence.
BY FAMILY OR HABITAT
Or come at it from another direction. Build a family from the ground up, like woodpeckers or waterfowl. Or pick a habitat and learn the species you will meet in a forest or on the water. And when you are ready, the problems every birder respects are waiting: eclipse ducks, juvenile gulls, and the species you learn by ear before you ever see them.
HONEST PROGRESS
A tour takes a couple of minutes, and you take as many as you like. Nestling tracks every species step by step, from first seen to mastered. Stop practicing and you forget. Nestling shows you that too, honestly.
HOW YOU LEARN
Recognizing a bird means more than knowing its name. So the same species keep coming back from different angles: as an illustration, side by side with lookalike species, as a real recording of a call or song, or hidden in an illustrated scene where exactly one bird is singing. That is how knowledge forms that works outside.
FIELD MARKS, EXPLAINED ON THE BIRD ITSELF
Good birders focus on a few decisive marks. That is exactly what you learn here. Every guide breaks a species down into its most important field marks and explains them right on the illustration: where they sit, why they matter, and how they differ from similar species. You learn not just that a bird looks different, but why.
WHAT YOU LEARN
More than 200 European species today, and more tomorrow. The current focus is adult males in breeding plumage, usually the most distinctive dress, and a growing number of species already include juvenile, female, and winter plumages. Our aim is every European species, in every plumage, in multiple poses: flying, sitting, swimming and more.
THE ILLUSTRATIONS
Every species in Nestling has its own illustration, created specifically for the app. It is made for learning: the decisive marks are clearly visible, in exactly the plumage the lesson is about. Bird experts check and verify every illustration before it appears in the app.
