Features & Capabilities

A vowel-space instrument modeled on the human vocal tract — play it, or read how it works.

Laryngeal is a musical instrument modeled on your own vocal tract.

Touch the square, and you're playing with resonance itself — the same physics that turns your throat, tongue, and mouth into an acoustic filter every time you speak. The fundamental stays fixed; your finger moves two filters that shape the vowel, the way your mouth normally would.

Trace the surface and you're improvising with an instrument built to be played, not just heard. Look away, and it starts playing back at you — a second, slightly detuned voice echoes what you did seconds ago. Leave it alone entirely, and it never quite goes silent: it drifts, breathes, and occasionally sounds on its own.

Underneath the sound is a small piece of linguistics. The five reference points on the pad aren't arbitrary — they mark /i, e, a, o, u/, the single most common five-vowel pattern across the world's languages. The name borrows from Laryngeal Theory: the idea that a class of sounds long vanished from Proto-Indo-European still lingers today as the color of a vowel. Tap "how it works" to read the rest, whenever you're curious.

— One drone, two parallel formant filters, fixed fundamental — A shadow voice that replays your own recent movement, delayed and detuned — Generative drift — never left in complete silence — Minimal, monochrome interface: play first, read later — Free. No ads, no in-app purchases, no account.
