LonelyTavern is a private client for chatting with AI characters. You bring your own API key, your own characters, and your own stories — the app brings everything else.

PRIVATE BY ARCHITECTURE No account. No ads. No analytics. Your chats and characters live only on your device, and the only network traffic the app ever sends is your conversation to the AI provider you configured, under your own key. We run no servers and cannot see anything you write.

BRING YOUR OWN KEY Connect any OpenAI-compatible endpoint: pick a provider, paste your API key, choose your model. Your provider bills you directly at its rates — no subscription, no markup, no middleman.

YOUR CHARACTERS Import character cards (V3 spec) or create your own with the built-in editor. Portraits, opening scenes, example dialogue, lorebooks — everything a card carries, faithfully. Standalone lorebooks import too: keep a library, attach books to any character, or set them always on.

MEMORY THAT KEEPS UP Long conversations stay coherent: a rolling story summary, automatic character and place memory, and a story clock that tracks when things happened — so returning to a chat after a hundred messages feels like picking up a book at your bookmark.
