A sunny day at 23°C (73°F). It feels lovely to us, but in midsummer asphalt can climb past 50°C (122°F). For a dog walking barefoot, "today's weather" is a little different from the forecast we look at.

• Walk Index: temperature, humidity, rain, wind and pavement temperature add up to one 0-100 answer to "is now a good time?" Plus an hourly index and a suggested walk time. • Score breakdown: why today scored what it did, across seven factors (heat, pavement, rain, cold, wind, UV and dryness). • Pavement temperature: an estimated guide from the sun's height and the cloud and rain, so you know which hours may be hard on paw pads. • Heatstroke risk: based on Japan's Ministry of the Environment heat index bands and veterinarian-supervised public sources. Flat-faced breeds, puppies and seniors are judged more cautiously. • Rain radar: watch rain clouds move on the map with the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) high-resolution nowcast (for locations in Japan). • Notifications: a walk summary plus an alert when the heat climbs. Morning and evening walk reminders and a heads-up when the pressure drops, too. • My Dogs: personalize the index by breed (120), age and build. Multiple dogs supported, and the mascot becomes the breed you register (48 breeds so far, with more on the way). • Care calendar: heartworm medicine, vaccinations, grooming and more on one calendar, with a reminder the evening before. • Memory Map: pin your walks to the map with photos. Location stays on your device, and the app works even if you don't grant permission (only Premium real-time alerts use the alert location you registered, to deliver them). The sources behind every index are in the app, any time. The rain radar, weather warnings and observed current temperature come from the JMA and cover locations in Japan.
