Kalamos is a private, offline Bible study app — the digital equivalent of a paper journaling Bible. Open a chapter and handwrite, highlight, and mark directly on the text. Your notes and ink stay anchored to the passage, and everything you write lives on your device.

This is an early beta. The core study workspace is in place, and we'd love your feedback on how it feels in daily reading and study.

WRITE ON SCRIPTURE BY HAND • Handwrite, draw, and highlight right on the verses — pen, highlighter, and eraser with pressure support. • Scroll and zoom while you draw — no mode-fighting. • Insert writing space between verses and let your ink flow into the gap. • Type notes too, with rich text and clickable scripture references that jump straight to the passage.

A REAL STUDY WORKSPACE • Split the screen into multiple panes — scripture, notes, a blank page, a document, or search — and arrange them how you study. • Word study pane with original-language lemmas and Strong's numbers. • Section headings, chapter navigation, and full-text search across the text.

BRING YOUR OWN LIBRARY • The bundled World English Bible works fully offline out of the box. • Download SWORD modules from CrossWire for more translations, lexicons, and study resources. • Optionally connect an API.Bible key for additional online versions.

IMPORT AND ANNOTATE DOCUMENTS • Import PDFs or images, then handwrite and highlight over them just like scripture. • On-device OCR makes imported text searchable.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Local-first: your notes, ink, and reading stay on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere by default. • Optional end-to-end encrypted backup and sync through your own cloud (Nextcloud, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive) — only your passphrase can open it. • No accounts and no tracking.
