Features & Capabilities

"Animal Vision Explorer" is an educational camera app that lets you simulate how animals and people see the world through the camera on your iPhone or iPad.

This is more than a filter that simply changes colors. From insects' compound eyes and frog eyes that react to movement, to a hawk's long-distance vision and presbyopia that makes nearby objects hard to see, each visual system is recreated with its own distinct processing. Simply point your camera at familiar surroundings, such as a room or park, and experience these different views in real time.

Switch between four languages: Japanese, Easy Japanese (Hiragana), English, and Simplified Chinese.

▼ VISION CAMERA MODES

· Honeybee Eyes: a mysterious world seen through thousands of tiny eyes Mosaic vision created by compound eyes. Bees have low sensitivity to red, revealing a world of ultraviolet, blue, and green. The "acute zone," where the forward view is more detailed, is also simulated.

· Peacock Mantis Shrimp Eyes: see more colors than any other animal Humans have three types of photoreceptors, while mantis shrimp have 12 to 16. Subtle color differences that look identical to us are recreated as vivid bands of color.

· Hawk Eyes: spot tiny prey from far away Only the center of the view is greatly magnified. Experience a raptor's vision as it searches for small movements on the ground from high above.

· Cat Eyes: see clearly even in the dark Slightly lower visual acuity and night vision enhanced by the tapetum, a reflective layer in the eye. Colors are simulated close to dichromatic vision, centered on yellow and blue.

· Frog Eyes: moving things suddenly stand out Only moving objects catch the eye. Stationary objects barely register. Experience a fascinating motion-detection visual system.

· Mole Eyes: almost blind, sensing only brightness Vision has nearly disappeared through life underground. Color and shape are lost, leaving only a faint sense of light and dark.

· Baby Eyes: cuddle distance is the clearest Only objects at cuddle distance, about 20–30 cm (8–12 inches), come into focus. Experience a view that is clear nearby and blurry farther away.

· Elderly Eyes: blurry up close, clear in the distance Bring the camera close and text becomes unreadable. Experience presbyopia—the feeling that you have to hold something farther away to see it.

▼ DESIGNED FOR PEACE OF MIND

No ads. No sign-in required. After download, Vision Camera modes work without an internet connection.

  • Peacock Mantis Shrimp Eyes is a premium feature.
  • Each mode is designed with reference to scientific knowledge, but the characteristics of cameras and displays make it impossible to reproduce actual vision perfectly. Please enjoy these modes as an intuitive, illustrative recreation of the differences in how animals and people see.
