You and your partner sit opposite each other and battle the rival team for the 28 points in the deck. It's chess with a poker face — and it's wonderfully addictive.

THE SCORING THAT MAKES 29 UNIQUE Only four ranks carry points, and the order is unlike any other card game: • Jack = 3 points - the highest card • Nine = 2 points - the second highest • Ace = 1 point • Ten = 1 point • King, Queen, 8 and 7 = 0 points Twenty-eight points in the deck. Bid for them, then prove it.

BID, THEN COMMIT Cards are dealt four at a time around the auction. Bids climb from 16 up to a maximum of 28 - the higher you go, the more you must capture. Win the auction and you name the trump suit: keep it HIDDEN for a tactical edge and reveal it at the perfect moment, or play it OPEN. Read your partner, count the points, and back yourself.

WIN THE TRICKS, WIN THE HAND Across eight tricks, follow suit, time your trump reveal, and squeeze every point from your cards. Beat your bid to score; fall short and the rival team takes the points. Eight tricks complete the hand - then on to the next.
