From the team behind Plus Path. New mechanic: 4 equation cards on screen, exactly 1 is true, find it in 60s. 50+ difficulty tiers, no streak-loss pressure.
Equation Match is a 60-second arithmetic puzzle. Each round shows you
four equation cards — for example "3 + 4 = 7" and "5 + 2 = 8". Exactly
ONE of them is a true statement; the others look right at a glance but
fail basic arithmetic. Find the truth. Tap it. Move to the next round.
Stay sharp for the full sixty seconds.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
• Pure mental math. No timers-as-luck, no power-ups, no pay-to-win.
Every point comes from reading equations correctly, fast. Beat a
personal best by thinking sharper — not by spending money.
• Built on a real cognitive science foundation. The difficulty curve
is grounded in published research on math anxiety (Ashcraft & Moore,
2009) and flow-state learning (Boaler, 2015). Every difficulty tier
was hand-tuned and playtested with real students. We did not ship
random equations.
• Calming by design. There is no streak-loss notification, no public
shame, no daily login loop. The round is a clean 60 seconds.
• 50+ difficulty tiers, replayable. Levels get harder as the numbers
grow and the operations mix. There is a leaderboard for your fastest
rounds.
• Offline-first. The game runs on a plane, on the subway, in a country
with no data plan. All rounds are bundled.
HOW TO PLAY
- The round starts. You have 60 seconds. (Your very first round is a
practice round with no timer.)
- Four equation cards appear on screen. Read each one. Exactly one is
a true mathematical statement.
- Tap the true equation. The other three are wrong — they look right
but fail basic arithmetic. Trust yourself.
- A new round appears instantly. Combo bonuses start at 5 in a row
(+50) and 10 in a row (+200).
- Use a coin to ask for a hint, replay a round, or revive after a
wrong tap.
- The round ends at 60 seconds or after three wrong taps. Your score
is saved.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
Most "math games" on the App Store are dressed-up flash cards or timed
multiplication drills. Equation Match is a focus game: can you read
four equations at once and pick the one that holds up? The mechanic is
closer to chess puzzles or Go problems than to flash cards. The game
rewards pattern recognition, not reflexes.
We chose a 60-second round, not a per-question timer, because research
on flow state (Csikszentmihalyi) and math anxiety (Ashcraft & Moore,
2009) shows that constant time pressure increases anxiety without
improving learning outcomes. One round = one focus window = one calm
breath.
We hand-tuned 50 difficulty tiers, not 50 random decks. Each tier adds
specific cognitive load: bigger numbers, mixed operations, or both.
You can feel the difficulty move; you can also feel the satisfaction
of a tier mastered.
DESIGNED FOR EVERYONE
• Adults who want a calm five-minute mental workout during a coffee
break.
• Students looking for arithmetic practice that does not feel like
homework.
• Older players who enjoy Sudoku, Kakuro, or nonogram-style logic
games and want something fresh.
• Anyone recovering from math anxiety. The game has no streak-loss
notifications, no public shaming, no comparison to other players.
ACCESSIBILITY
• VoiceOver-friendly: every equation card and combo bonus is announced.
• High-contrast color theme available in Settings.
• Sound effects can be turned off independently of music.
• Difficulty is genuinely progressive: tiers 1-5 are approachable,
tiers 40+ will take a real think.
