Squendo is the deceptively simple tile game that turns "sure, I get it" into "okay, HOW are you winning?!" in about ninety seconds. Easy to learn, gloriously ruthless to master.

HOW IT WORKS Every tile has a figure (a circle or a cross) in one of four colours, with four little borders that are either black or white. The rules are almost insultingly simple:

• Place tiles side by side — but touching borders must match. Black to black, white to white. No cheating, no exceptions. • Stack tiles on top — but the figures must match. Circle on circle, cross on cross. • Only YOUR colour scores. Line up a square or rectangle of four+ and bank a fat bonus. Stack cleverly. Leave nothing for your rivals.

Simple pieces. Sneaky depth. The kind of game where "one more round" is a lie you'll happily tell yourself.
