Meet the people you almost met
Bump notices when you cross paths with other students at Western — then helps you actually meet the people you almost met. Private by design, no location tracking.
Bump turns people on campus into a chance to actually meet.
HOW IT WORKS
Turn Bump on and live your day. When you pass within a couple of meters of another Bump user, the encounter is saved to your timeline. Got something to say? You have 30 hours to send a message. Unless you add each other as friends, the encounter and the chat vanish for good after that. No pressure. Clean slate.
WHY BUMP EXISTS
About 70% of university students report feeling lonely — on a campus full of people they walk past every single day. Bump turns those near-misses into real connections.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
• No GPS, no location sharing. Bumps are detected with short-range Bluetooth, and your location is never shown to or shared with anyone.
• Encounters and messages auto-delete after 30 hours unless you both choose to stay connected.
• Profiles are private by default — you choose what to share.
• Notifications stay quiet. Chats are silent until you tap the bell on one. Replies to your own posts, and someone asking to join your Meet Up, come through. Nothing else does - no broadcasts, no come-back-please nudges, never a notification because someone liked something.
STUDENT SAFETY
• Students only: registration requires a verified @uwo.ca email.
• The Boot: someone being disrespectful? Boot them on the spot — report and block, right from the chat. A first Boot means a 15-minute timeout; repeated Boots escalate to a permanent ban. Every report is reviewed, so the system stays fair.
• One community standard: treat others the way you'd like to be treated.
MORE THAN BUMPS
• Campus map: find buildings and navigate between classes.
• Transit: live London Transit arrivals for every stop around campus.
• Meet Up: press and hold anywhere on the map to start your own meetup — coffee chats, study breaks, pick-up sports, rideshares, grocery runs.
• Boards: one for the whole campus, one for each of your classes. Ask the question you'd feel awkward asking out loud, answer someone else's, or find whoever lost the student card you picked up.
• Sage: an AI assistant for quick questions about campus life.
Bump is actively moderated: every post is keyword-filtered on the way in, anything can be reported with one tap and is auto-hidden after three independent reports, and our team reviews every report - repeat violations lead to temporary or permanent suspension.
