Features & Capabilities

The greatest app for actors, period. Scene partner, self-tapes, teleprompter, video hosting, table reads, sides, and more, all in one place.

To my fellow actor,

I've been doing this for more than twenty years, and Subtext is the app I've always wished existed.

Not another app for one tiny part of the job. One place for the whole thing.

A script lands. You drop it into Subtext and it understands the pages, the characters, the scenes you're in, even the casting markings scribbled across your sides.

You read it. You highlight your lines, make notes, scribble in the margins, add tabs. You ask questions about the story or listen to the whole script as a table read while you're walking the dog.

Then you start learning it.

Subtext becomes your scene partner. It reads everyone else while you say your lines out loud. Hide your dialogue when you're ready to memorize. Peek when you blank. Run it again. And again. Until you're not thinking about the words anymore.

Sometimes you want a real actor opposite you. Send them a link and they can record the other lines right from their browser. No app for them to download. Their performance is waiting for you whenever you're ready to rehearse.

And when it's time to tape, you don't have to leave.

Record your self-tape right in Subtext. Your reader comes with you. There's a teleprompter that follows your voice, an editor made for self-tapes, and when you're happy, one link to send to your agent or casting. No giant files. No file service to sign up for.

There's a voiceover studio in there too. Record your takes, trim them on the waveform, use Studio Sound to clean them up, and send one finished MP3.

But I didn't build Subtext just for auditions.

Because hopefully you book the thing!

Then these aren't audition sides anymore. They're the pages you take into rehearsal. The script you're marking up at midnight. The lines you're running before call. The scene you're still discovering on the way to set. The play you're living with eight shows a week.

That's the part I care about most.

I wanted to build one place for the strange, wonderful process of taking words on a page and slowly making them yours.

Your scripts, your notes, your rehearsals, your tapes, your work. Together and synced across your devices, wherever the job takes you.

Your first two scripts are free, with everything unlocked. I want you to actually use Subtext and decide for yourself if it belongs in your process.

I hope it does.

See you out there,

Ali Momen Actor & Creator of Subtext

I hate AI, but this is a tool that can help sharpen you as an actor, so you can be an actor, not the other way around.
