Noise Log & Decibel Levels
The automatic noise log: measure noise, document incidents, export a log PDF for your landlord, mediator, or lawyer. One-time purchase — no ads, no subscription.
When noise becomes a problem, the loudest number doesn't win — the complete log does. MeterWorks Sound Meter is a sound level meter and noise log in one: measure, document incidents, export the log PDF. No ads, no subscription, no account.
NOISE LOG — THE HEART OF IT
• Every incident with start, duration, type, and measured level — turn any recording into a diary entry with one tap
• Tag events with one tap: bass/music, footsteps, dog, drilling, traffic …
• Pro: automatic events — when the level crosses your threshold, the entry creates itself with start, duration, Leq, and max level
• Export a log PDF in the tabular form landlords and mediators expect: date, time, duration, type, measured levels, notes — with a methodology footer
• Fair by design: the app stores NO audio — only level values. No secret recordings, no legal gray zone
MEASURE
• Live readout with a big dB(A) value, Fast/Slow weighting, smooth real-time graph
• Leq, LAFmax, LAFmin — the numbers that belong in real reports
• Pro: dB(C)/dB(Z) weighting and L10/L50/L90/L95 percentiles (background vs. events)
• Offset calibration against a reference meter — wide ±25 dB range, because devices drift
YOUR DATA IS YOURS
• Free: PNG export of any measurement
• Pro: CSV of the full per-second series (LAeq/LAFmax/LAFmin) — spreadsheet-ready, shared in seconds
• Pro: multi-page PDF report with statistics, level history, and the event table
FREE VS. PRO — NO SURPRISES
Free is a real instrument: unlimited live measurement, three recordings of 10 seconds each, 3 manual diary entries per day, PNG export. Pro is a single one-time purchase: recordings without time or count limits, auto events, CSV, log PDF, percentiles, dB(C)/(Z) — all future Pro features included. No subscription, ever.
WHAT THIS APP CANNOT DO — HONESTLY
iPhone microphones measure reliably from roughly 30 to 100 dB(A), within ±2–3 dB after calibration. Certified, court-grade measurements are beyond any smartphone — apps promising that are bluffing. The log serves documentation; the in-app page "Limits of this measurement" explains exactly what works.
TYPICAL USES
Document neighbor noise · back up a complaint with timestamped data · level a home theater or rehearsal room · compare machine and fan noise
NO SUBSCRIPTION. NO ADS. NO TRACKERS.
All measurement data stays on your device. MeterWorks is a family of honest measurement apps — Sound Meter is one of them.
