ABOUT THE EU DRONE REGULATION

Since 2021, Regulation 2019/947 applies across the EU. Anyone flying a drone of 250 g or more needs a certificate of competency. The EU drone license is valid for 5 years – in all 27 EU states plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. Switzerland has adopted the EU drone rules; the exam there is run by FOCA (BAZL).

A1/A3: the basic certificate for drones under 250 g (A1) and larger drones flown away from people (A3). A2: for drones between 500 g and 2 kg flown closer to people.
