Shabad Drive

First release. A shabad library with pehla akhar search in English or Gurmukhi, a reader that opens downloads instantly, and a Shared tab the class can follow.

Shabad Drive is a Sikh kirtan practice app built for a school setting. A shabad is a musical composition based on passages from the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and this app keeps a library of shabad sheets — the words and the notation, as PDFs — in one place. Teachers manage the library and decide what each class can see. Students open their own repertoire, follow along with whatever is being taught, and keep track of what they have sung.

It was built for a real kirtan class, and everything in it is here because that class needed it.

Shabad library — search by title, author, or raag, and filter by author, raag, raag family, taal, or partaal. Sort by raag, by time of day, or by how often you have sung something (least-sung first is the honest way to find what needs practice).

First-letter search (pehla akhar) — find a line by typing the first letter of each of its words, either in English (mmghn for "Man Merey Gahu Har Naam") or in Gurmukhi on an on-screen painti pad. Gurbani text courtesy of BaniDB / Khalis Foundation.

A real PDF reader — shabads render with the device's own PDF engine, so a downloaded shabad opens near-instantly (like Apple Books). Portrait fits the page width and scrolls; landscape becomes a page-at-a-time pager, with an optional two-page spread on tablets.

Works offline — download one shabad, a whole class, or your entire library, and the app is fully usable with no network at all.

Shared screen — whatever the teacher is currently sharing appears on the Shared tab, so the room is on the same page. It needs no account, so a visitor can open it and read along too.

Classes and roles — students see the shabads assigned to their class plus anything granted to them individually. A student with nothing assigned yet can send an access request from inside the app.

Sung history — mark a shabad as sung (or add past instances by hand), attach a note, and watch each shabad's freshness colour move from green to yellow to red as it goes unsung. Adding a location to an entry is entirely optional; declining changes nothing else about the app.

Arrangements — stitch page-ranges from several PDFs into one continuous reading, such as an Aasa Ki Vaar with shabads sung in between, and let the class follow the leader's page live.

Elaborate views and assignment sheets — a long bani can carry a structure map with tappable chhaka, salok, and pauri regions paired to their notation, plus a dated who-sings-what sheet that shows each singer their own part.

Themes — Light, Dark, a dimmer Dark Night for a darkened hall, or a custom palette built from two colours you choose.

Notifications — announcements from your administrator, and a notice when your access changes. On by default and off again any time in Settings.

Privacy: Shabad Drive collects the minimum needed to run your account — your email, your name, and the role and classes an administrator assigns you. Your sung history is private to your account, and you can delete it entry by entry or all at once. There are no ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and nothing is sold. Location is optional, is read only at the moment you log a sung entry, and is never read in the background.
