HOW TO PLAY Each turn you roll the dice and move one piece. Land on a rosette and roll again. Catch an opponent's piece on a shared square to send it back to the start. The first player to move all seven pieces around the board and off the far end wins.

ABOUT THE GAME The Royal Game of Ur was discovered in the Royal Tombs of Ur in modern-day Iraq and dates back to around 2500 BC. These rules follow the version reconstructed by Irving Finkel of the British Museum. It's a perfect mix of luck and tactics — a game that has entertained people for thousands of years and still does today.
