Scroll Volume Remote is the free iPhone companion to Scroll Volume for Mac — a macOS utility that turns the menu bar into a volume target. This app on its own does nothing useful. Its only job is to remotely control the Scroll Volume Mac app from your phone, by acting as a wireless volume wheel. If you do not own and run the Mac app, there is nothing here for you.

WHAT IT IS, AND WHAT IT IS NOT

This is not a generic "Mac remote" or a universal volume controller. It cannot adjust the volume of a Mac that does not have Scroll Volume installed and running. It cannot control any other application, system setting, or media playback. It cannot connect to anything other than a Mac running Scroll Volume. It is a single-purpose add-on to one specific Mac app.

If you have the Mac app: this is a small, free bonus that lets you change your Mac's volume from a few meters away. If you do not have the Mac app: please install it first from the Mac App Store. The Mac app is the product. This app is the remote.

HOW IT WORKS WITH SCROLL VOLUME FOR MAC

Install Scroll Volume for Mac from the Mac App Store on your Mac. Launch it. Then open this app on your iPhone — it will look for Macs nearby that are running Scroll Volume, and offer to pair with them. Tap to pair. From then on the two devices recognize each other automatically. Spin the wheel on the phone, and the Mac's system volume changes — one notch on the phone, one step on the Mac. Mute and unmute work too.

The two devices communicate directly using Apple's MultipeerConnectivity framework over Bluetooth and the local Wi-Fi network. There is no router-only requirement, no internet involved, and no servers in the middle. We do not run any. Traffic stays on your local link.

PRIVACY BY DEFAULT

Scroll Volume Remote collects nothing. No accounts, no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no crash reporting services, no third-party trackers. The only thing the app keeps on disk is the name of Macs you have paired with so it can reconnect. That information never leaves your device. The app runs in the iOS sandbox.

PERMISSIONS

• Local Network — required so the app can discover your Mac on the same Wi-Fi network. You will be prompted on first launch.

• Bluetooth — required so the app can discover and talk to your Mac when there is no shared Wi-Fi network, using Apple's peer-to-peer Bluetooth.

REQUIREMENTS

iOS 16 or later.

A Mac with Scroll Volume for Mac installed and running. The Mac app is sold separately on the Mac App Store and is required — this iPhone app has no use without it. The two devices need to be on the same local Wi-Fi network, or have Bluetooth turned on, to discover each other.
