Scams have changed. The fake IRS tax refund text. The Medicare card "reactivation" call. The Amazon order alert that wasn't yours. They sound real because they're written to sound real.
Nora Aware is a calm, plain English app that teaches older adults to spot scams before they cause harm. Five minute lessons. No jargon. No alarm bells. No data collected.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
- How to spot a fake IRS text in under ten seconds
- Why a USPS "missed parcel" link asking for a small fee is almost always fake

- What a grandparent scam sounds like, and the line that gives it away
- How romance scams start, and the red flags that come before the money question
- Why "your Amazon order" texts are designed to make you panic
- How gift card scams work, and why no real agency ever asks for one
- What to do if you've already clicked, replied, or paid
- How to help a parent or partner without making them feel told off
WHY NORA AWARE IS DIFFERENT
Most scam advice is written for IT departments. It uses words like "phishing", "vector" and "verify the domain". The people most often targeted by scammers are the people least likely to read that.
Nora Aware is written like a friend explaining things over coffee. Calm. Slow. Plain. Each lesson is short enough to finish on a coffee break. You can read it, listen to it, or work through it at your own pace.
The lessons cover the real US scams happening this year. IRS. USPS. Medicare. Social Security. Banks. Amazon. Investment cold calls. Grandparent scams. Gift card scams. Each one shows you the exact words scammers use, so you'll recognize them when they land.

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER
I'm Devon. I work in cybersecurity, in the family business. We spend a lot of time teaching staff at big companies how to spot scams. The training never seems to reach the people who actually need it most: parents, grandparents, anyone who didn't grow up online.
So I built Nora Aware. It's the training, stripped of jargon, paced for a real person, on a phone you already own.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Does it collect my data? No. There's no login, no account, no email required. We don't see what you tap.
Is it for older people only? It's written for older adults, but the lessons work for anyone. A lot of people buy it for a parent and end up using it themselves.
Do I need to be good with phones? No. If you can open this App Store page, you can use Nora Aware.
What if I'm already careful? The lessons cover scams you may not have seen yet. New tactics arrive every month.
Does it block scam calls or texts? No. Nora Aware teaches you to recognize them. Blocking is a separate job. We don't pretend to do what we don't do.
WHO IT'S FOR
- Older adults who want a quiet, no-pressure way to learn
- Adult children and caregivers buying for a parent
- Anyone who's had a near miss and wants to feel prepared next time
- People tired of being shouted at by security apps
