Features & Capabilities

Point the camera at a horse and get a likely breed in seconds. Every result opens on the lifespan that breed typically reaches in years, plus its origin and temperament.

Horse Identifier turns your camera into a field guide for horse and pony breeds. Point it at one and get a likely match in seconds, with the breed's typical lifespan at the top of the result.

WHAT ONE PHOTO GIVES YOU

  • The breed name, and a secondary name where one exists
  • The breed's typical lifespan, as a plain range of years
  • The breed group: light horse, draft horse, pony, warmblood, gaited or cross
  • Where the breed was developed, and what it was developed for
  • Typical adult height in hands and centimetres, weight in kilograms and pounds
  • The coat colours the breed commonly carries
  • Temperament words, energy level and trainability
  • The disciplines it excels at, from ranch work to dressage and endurance
  • A confidence level, so you can see how sure the answer is

25 TO 30 YEARS, OR PAST 30? That range leads every result, because it is the thing a name alone does not tell you. Arabians usually live 25 to 30 years. Many pony breeds go past 30. It describes a whole population of horses rather than the one in front of you, and it is a plain range of years, not a score or a forecast. The app does not estimate how old an individual horse is.

PONIES, DRAFTS, CROSSES AND GRADES Stock horses, warmbloods, gaited breeds, heavy drafts, native ponies and Iberian breeds all work, and the result names the group: a Shetland comes back as a pony, a Shire as a draft horse. Plenty of horses arrive at a yard with no history, so when the one in the photo looks like a cross or a grade, the name carries Cross or Grade and the result lists its most likely parent breeds in order.

BUILT FOR THE PHOTOS YOU ACTUALLY TAKE Head-on, half in shadow, shot from the far side of a paddock. Some breeds simply look alike: Hanoverian, Holsteiner and Westphalian share a type, and so do many stock-horse crosses. When an image will not support a breed-level answer, it stops at the breed group and says so rather than invent a name. Colour alone is never enough, so it reads frame, head profile, neck set, shoulder, croup and legs.

ASK ABOUT THE BREED Every scan opens a thread about the horse you just identified. Ask what separates an Arabian from an Akhal-Teke, or an Andalusian from a Lusitano, or what the breed standard asks for. It stays on horses and does not wander.

YOUR COLLECTION, KEPT Every scan is saved on your device with its photo, so a season of fairs, parades and yard visits becomes a record of the breeds you have seen. No typing, no account. The interface and the results run in 33 languages, and the detail labels are translated too, not only the values.

WHO IT IS FOR

  • Anyone who passed a horse in a field, at a parade or at a county fair
  • Lesson students and new owners naming the horses at their yard
  • Owners of a horse whose background nobody knows, who want a read on the mix
  • Horse-mad children, parents, teachers and pony club groups

HONEST ABOUT WHAT A PHOTO CAN DO An identification here is a best-effort AI suggestion, not an authoritative determination, and a breed match read from one photograph is an estimate, not a settled fact. The app describes breeds, not individual animals: the height and weight ranges belong to the breed and say nothing about the horse in your picture. It covers horse and pony breeds only, it describes the horse in the photo and nothing else, and it does not identify people. Nothing in it is advice about keeping a horse. For any health concern, contact an equine veterinarian.

Identification needs an internet connection. Scans you have already saved stay on your device and reopen at any time.

PREMIUM Free includes 2 identifications per day. Premium lifts the daily limit and opens the fuller detail sheet on every result. It does not change the identification itself. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and you can manage or cancel yours in your App Store account settings.
