Users broadly appreciate the CSUN app's redesign and breadth of features (class schedules, maps, parking, dining, transcripts). However, recurring issues undermine the experience: authentication friction (2FA/DUO and sign-ins across sections), reliability problems (slow performance and blank pages), and gaps where essential tasks can’t be completed in-app (enrolling, paying tuition, waitlists, alumni card). Additional mobile usability gaps exist on iPad and for certain features. Improving authentication, performance, and true mobile optimization would significantly improve usability.

Pros

Redesigned UI with easier navigation and a strong search feature.
Easy access to class/exam schedules and academic info (grades, financial aid, transcripts).
Parking information and real-time space availability.
Campus map/navigation, including a 3D map.
Dining hours and other campus services (self-service menus, job applications).

Cons

Frequent authentication friction: required sign-ins across sections, 2FA/DUO, and inconsistent login persistence.
Reliability and performance issues: slow load times, occasional blank pages, and crashes; often slower than the website.
Inability to complete essential tasks within the app: enrolling, paying tuition, waitlists, or accessing alumni cards are blocked or require web access.
Incomplete mobile optimization: some features not mobile-friendly (e.g., parking permit purchases); iPad UI visibility issues; app feels like a wrapper around a mobile site.

Recent reviews

this app has many helpful references but I can’t clearly see tabs on my IPad. The academics/ enrollment page is glitchy in a way where it’s half the screen and I physically can not access these tools on this device. It’s unfortunate I can’t handle tasks such as viewing scholarships or paying tuition on my iPad because the software isn’t formulated for this.

This updated version looks so much better and honestly makes it easier to find things and get my stuff done more efficiently. Plus it shows me the available parking spaces on campus which is great cause when I’m running late I can see if I don’t have to drive in circles in parking buildings
