Free, multilingual mutual aid
Ask for help with life in Tokyo in English, 中文 or 日本語 — free, with no money between users. TokyoHelp is new, so we can't promise anyone will answer yet.
TokyoHelp is a free, multilingual mutual-aid app for adults living in Greater Tokyo. Post what you need in your language, and anyone on TokyoHelp who reads it can offer to help. TokyoHelp has only just started, so we can't promise anyone will answer yet — but posting is free and takes a couple of minutes. Requests marked “Example” in the feed only show how it works; you can't offer on them.
— HOW IT WORKS —
• Write your request in English, 中文 or 日本語. Readers using the app in one of the other two see a machine translation when they open it.
• If someone offers, you decide whether to accept. Tap their name to see their languages, area and reviews.
• Chat privately to agree on a time and place.
• Mark it completed and leave a quick review.
— WHAT YOU CAN ASK FOR —
• City hall & paperwork: 住民登録, My Number, health insurance.
• Translation & interpreting: letters, school notices, a doctor's visit.
• A phone call for you: the gas company, a clinic.
• Come with me: hospital, real-estate agent, city hall, post office.
• Moving & heavy lifting: furniture, that fridge that won't fit.
• Local tips: which clinic speaks English, which sushi spot is good.
• Borrow / lend: a drill, a suitcase, a folding bike for a day.
• Airport pickup: Narita / Haneda. Plan your own way into the city as well — nobody may answer.
Helpers are neighbours volunteering their time, not professionals — what they share isn't legal, administrative, or medical advice.
— MUTUAL AID, NOT A MARKETPLACE —
TokyoHelp is currently free: no commission, no fees, no premium tier. The goal is a kinder, more connected Tokyo — not another gig app.
— BUILT FOR SAFETY —
• Public profiles with reviews.
• Report or block from a request, a chat, a profile, or a note on Community thanks.
• Meet in a public place first. Never hand over your residence card, bank book, or money up front.
• TokyoHelp doesn't vet users or the arrangements they make, so use your own judgement.
• You must be at least 18 years old to use TokyoHelp.
— AREAS —
All 23 Tokyo wards, plus selected cities in the Tama area, Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama. If yours isn't listed, choose “Other / outside Greater Tokyo”.
— LANGUAGES —
The app is available in English, 日本語 and 简体中文, and you can switch between them inside the app, even before you sign in. When you open a request, it's machine-translated into the language you're using, and you can view the original; if no translation is available, you'll see the original. The feed list, offer notes and private chat in the app aren't translated.
Welcome to Tokyo. If something here has you stuck, post it — it's free, even if we can't promise an answer yet.
