Soft Grid

Soft Grid is a professional cutting mode calculator and pass logger for machinists working with CNC and manual lathes, mills, and drills.

Set up a pass in seconds. Select your workpiece material from a built-in library of 16 materials including steel grades, stainless, aluminum alloys, cast iron, brass, titanium, plastics, and wood. Enter your tool diameter, number of flutes, and cutting material. Add your machine spindle limit. Soft Grid instantly calculates the optimal spindle speed in RPM, feed rate in mm per min, and cutting speed in m per min.

A safety factor slider lets you scale all parameters from 60 to 100 percent of the recommended values with live recalculation. Estimated spindle load and power consumption are shown in real time with a color-coded indicator that goes from green to yellow to red as load increases.

During an active pass, a live arc gauge shows current RPM and an elapsed timer tracks pass duration. Adjust depth of cut on the fly and watch feed rate update instantly. When you stop the pass, log the result with an operator rating and optional notes.

Every completed pass is saved to history with full parameters. Filter by material, operation type, or result. Open any record to review all cutting data and repeat the pass with identical parameters in one tap.

The built-in reference covers cutting speeds for all supported materials across HSS, carbide, coated carbide, and ceramic tooling. Each material entry includes chip load recommendations per operation type and specific tool selection advice.
