Features & Capabilities

Custom colors, bibliographies, Zotero export, and Ask. Get more from your reading with et al. Pro. One purchase for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. No subscription.

Save and cite what you read. Highlight pages in Safari, add your own notes, and keep useful passages in a searchable Library. Create APA and MLA citations for free.

HIGHLIGHT AND REMEMBER Save a passage with its source link and add a note about why it matters. Choose from four free highlight colors and give them names that fit your work. Open a saved highlight to return to its passage when et al. can still find it.

KEEP YOUR READING ORGANIZED Search highlights and notes, organize them with folders and tags, and return to ideas across your reading. Export as Markdown or CSV, export Markdown for Obsidian, print your Library, or keep a local backup.

CREATE CITATIONS Copy or download a single APA 7 or MLA 9 citation, with the highlights and notes you choose, for free. Review and edit source details before exporting.

Make more of your Library with et al. Pro One purchase unlocks Pro on Mac, iPhone, and iPad when you use the same Apple Account. No subscription.

• Four additional default highlight colors and up to five active custom colors. Name your colors for themes, questions, or research methods. Edit them in the Library or directly in the Mac app. Saved highlights keep their original shade when you change or remove a color. • Chicago 18 Author-Date and IEEE citations, plus bibliographies for multiple sources. • BibTeX, RIS, and CSL-JSON export. Export Zotero-compatible RIS files, then import them into Zotero with your selected highlights and notes. • Ask questions about your saved highlights and notes, with supporting passages linked in the answer. Ask uses Apple's on-device models and requires Apple Intelligence on a supported device running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, or macOS 26 or later.

BRING YOUR HIGHLIGHTS WITH YOU Import highlights from Readwise Markdown for web highlights, Hypothesis JSON, or compatible CSV and Markdown exports. Preview what will be added and skip duplicates. Import files are read on your device. Turn on optional iCloud Sync to keep your Library available across your devices through your iCloud account.

PRIVATE TO YOU No ads, no tracking, and no et al. account to create. Your Library is private to you. iCloud Sync is optional and off by default. Smart features use Apple's on-device models; your Library is not sent to us.

The free app includes highlights, notes, folders, tags, search, Markdown and CSV export, Obsidian export, import, iCloud Sync, and single-source APA and MLA citations.

Requires iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS 12 or later. Smart features require a supported Apple Intelligence device and available on-device models.

User Reviews

This is a really a useful app for anyone who regularly reads articles, research, or other online material and wants an easy way to save and organize important information. I especially like the ability to highlight passages, add notes, organize everything with folders and tags, and quickly turn saved sources into citations. The interface is clean and the app feels thoughtfully designed. The ability to search your saved highlights and export your work makes it even more useful.
